WSP seeks witnesses to vehicle gunfire on I-5 near Star Lake

No injuries were reported in the July 18 incident.

The Washington State Patrol is seeking witnesses to a shooting on I-5 near north Federal Way that occurred soon after midnight July 18.

At about 12:30 a.m. that morning, WSP troopers performing a traffic stop on southbound I-5 north of S. 272nd Street heard gunfire.

The troopers saw two vehicles moving quickly, and witnessed the occupants of the vehicles firing weapons at each other, according to the WSP. The troopers tried to overtake the vehicles, but could not do so, because traffic had slowed as other drivers tried to get away from the gunfire.

Troopers lost sight of the vehicles — a white SUV and a black sedan — and believe they may have exited onto S. 272nd Street, which is located near Star Lake and the Redondo area. A tow truck in the area was struck by two rounds and was disabled, but no injuries were reported, according to the WSP.
