With the barrage of public service announcements on radio and TV, plus large digital signs along the I-5 corridor, Western Washington drivers certainly know when DUI emphasis patrols will take place, but not exactly where.

According to a post on the Washington State Traffic Commission website (www.wtsc.wa.gov), the website www.waTikiLeaks.com is sharing information on the exact location of emphasis patrols within King, Pierce and Snohomish counties. The site even has a mobile app that can be downloaded to a smartphone. According to the WTSC, the app allows users to easily share information regarding DUI emphasis patrol areas on social networking sites like Twitter and Facebook.

The three counties are participating in a special two-year Target Zero Teams project, a community awareness project aimed at reducing the number of fatalities from DUI-related incidents. Those posting information to the website are local traffic safety task forces who are participating within the greater Target Zero Teams project.

According to waTikiLeaks.com, the website is designed to inform drivers of where the emphasis patrols are taking place “so drivers can make other plans for their ride home.”

When users click on the King County section of the website, it informs users that emphasis patrols are currently happening in South King County until Sept. 5. To ensure these patrols happen, waTikiLeaks.com indicates 14 South King County agencies have officers patrolling the area for drunk and impaired drivers.
