Visitors are invited this weekend to tour the cabins of two pioneers and enjoy the boardwalk of a rare, picturesque, 120-acre wetlands preserve located less than a mile from Interstate 5.

The log cabins at West Hylebos Wetlands Park (on South 348th Street, just west of Pacific Highway South) will be open to the public Saturday, Sept. 10, from noon to 4 p.m. Tours will be provided by the Historical Society of Federal Way and the Federal Way Lions Club.

David Denny, an early Seattle settler, built his cabin at the base of Queen Anne Hill, near Seattle Center, as a real estate office in 1889. The John Barker Cabin, built in 1883, is the oldest building in Federal Way, housing a number of vintage furniture and household items. Each structure represents a different style of log cabin architecture, providing visitors of all ages with a sense of the 19th-century pioneer lifestyle, all in beautiful surroundings.

The cabins are maintained by the Historical Society of Federal Way. Donations are appreciated. For more information, visit www.federalwayhistory.org and the Historical Society of Federal Way’s Facebook page.
