Thief steals scanner, donut from 7-Eleven

Police also respond to knife assault on 37th Avenue.

Knife assault: At 8:41 p.m. on March 28, police responded to a verbal argument in the 31800 block of 37th Avenue Southwest. The argument escalated to the point that a female grabbed a knife, raised it over her head and took several steps toward the victim. The victim was injured and retreated. The suspect was arrested.

Expensive bracelet: A person in the 500 block of Southwest 329th Street reported at 7:40 p.m. March 28 that on March 19 they had sold a $4,100 bracelet on eBay, but never received payment from the buyer despite receiving a message that the buyer had paid. An officer researched the Minden, Nevada, address the bracelet was sent to and discovered it is a package combining service used by “dead beat eBay buyers.” The officer advised the reporting party dispute the sale with eBay and Paypal and report the matter to the FBI.

Gift card scam: At 1:36 p.m. March 28, a woman reported that she had received a phone call from a Washington, D.C., number from someone claiming to be the IRS. The person demanded that the woman go purchase gift cards and then read the numbers to the suspect. The woman purchased $3,000 worth of gift cards and read the numbers to the suspect. She was unable to cancel any of the transaction.

Scanner theft: At 10:55 p.m. March 27, a man in his 30s entered the 7-Eleven, 31006 Pacific Highway S., and took a donut from the bakery case and an NEC product scanner, used by employees for inventory. The scanner was sitting on top of the bakery case. The manager said he has never seen the suspect before. The manager told police it would cost $1,400 to replace the scanner, but it is of no real value to anyone other than 7-Eleven.

Scam avoided: At 4:24 p.m. March 27 in the 34700 block of Fourth Place South, a person reported he placed an ad looking for work on Craigslist March 14. He received an offer for a personal assistant job from Massachusetts. The unknown suspect sent him a check for $1,980 and instructed him to deposit it. The suspect then told the victim to purchase $900 in iTunes cards. The victim called the suspect and the bank and determined it was a scam. The victim did not lose any money before reporting it to police and stopped communicating with the suspect. An officer attempted to call and text the suspect but was unable to make contact.

Desperate thief: At 10:49 a.m. March 27, someone reported an unknown suspect kicked in the north door to the Dairy Queen on Southwest 336th Street and stole a donation bucket just inside the front door. The burglary was captured on camera, but the suspect wore gloves and covered his face.

Mischief near Winco: At 8:23 a.m. March 27 in the 100 block of Southwest Campus Drive, someone reported a male transient, in his 40s or 50s, punched the door window to the former Quiznos, shattering it. The suspect then threw a rock at a panel window and shattered it. A loss prevention officer for Winco stated the suspect frequents the area and hangs out in the parking lot. The estimated damage is $3,000.

Laundry stolen: At 9:56 p.m. March 26 in the 32200 block of 11th Place South, a female reported she dried her clothing the night of March 18 in the apartment complex laundry room. When she returned, the room was locked for the night. The victim said she checked for the laundry the next evening and was unable to locate the two loads. The victim believed a transient used bobby pins to pick the door lock and steal her clothing, but there was no evidence supporting that. The victim said the laundry door and windows did not have damage.

Reported threats: At 7:07 p.m. March 26 in the 1100 block of South 322nd Place, officers responded to a call of threats made with a weapon. Officers detained both parties, who denied anything happened, and neither wanted to pursue charges. The driver of a vehicle had a warrant out of Tukwila and was booked on the warrant. Suspected methamphetamine and heroin were observed in the vehicle, which was sealed and towed to the police station for a search warrant.

Ring gone: At 5:59 p.m. March 26, the manager at a business at The Commons mall reported a gold engagement ring, valued at $4,599, was missing. The manager stated she let a customer hold the ring on March 23 but does not remember where it was placed afterward. The customer was contacted and said the ring was given back to the manager. No other suspects or witnesses were identified. The ring has no distinguishing marks or serial numbers, and the gems in the rings are not irradiated.

Missing woman: At 2 p.m. March 26 in the 29800 block of 18th Avenue South, police were called to a missing person report. The reporting person said he had not heard from his wife since 5:40 a.m. She had left her vehicle, keys, purse and phone at the house. The husband reported his wife had a history of fainting and falls in the last year. He did not know where his wife went. Police searched his residence, along with another property nearby. The woman’s vehicle was also still in the garage and searched. The woman was entered into a police database as missing-endangered.
