A Federal Way tamales vendor located at South 288th and Pacific Highway South was closed by Public Health officials at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday due to lack of a valid food business permit.

Public Health spokesman Keith Seinfeld said the woman selling tamales was selling them out of an ice chest. Also, the business didn’t have a name.

“It’s a story of a woman who was trying to make a few extra bucks, tried to sell some tamales by the side of the road and got busted for it,” Seinfeld said.

The health inspector found her found the woman selling the homemade tamales at a little table next to a pickup truck in an empty lot and told her she couldn’t sell food to the public without a food permit, to which she complied.

The vendor has been instructed on how to obtain a valid permit, officials said.
