Voters have Monday and part of Tuesday to get their Washington state primary ballots in, and the Secretary of State’s office on Monday is reporting low turnout for the Aug. 2 election.

Calling voters’ response to to the state primary election “tepid,” a Secretary of State release said only 14.3 percent of ballots issued for the contest have so far been returned.

“Every voter has a stake in choices we make together about finalists for governor and other statewide officials, our closely divided Legislature, the U.S. Senate and Congress, the courts and local races and issues,” Secretary of State Kim Wyman said in the release. “This is important work of self-government and we shouldn’t leave it to ‘the other guy.'”

Voters can still have their votes counted via mail-in if their ballots are postmarked on Monday or Tuesday. Federal Way voters can also swing by the ballot drop box at City Hall (33325 8th Ave. S.) at any time, day or night, until 8 p.m. Tuesday.

Other ballot drop box locations are available throughout King County. An online voter guide, with statements from the candidates, is available as well.
