Police seek driver in fatal hit and run in Federal Way

Officers recovered a fragment of plastic with a “unique” blue paint at the scene believed to belong to the suspect vehicle in the collision.

Federal Way police continue to search for the suspect of a hit-and-run collision that killed a 21-year-old man.

According to the King County Medical Examiner’s Office, Devon Nelson, 21, died as a result of a blunt force injury to the head that he received on Feb. 17 at Southwest Dash Point Road and 8th Avenue Southwest. He died in Seattle the following day on Feb. 18. The medical examiner’s office marked Nelson’s manner of death as undetermined.

According to an email from Kyle Buchanan, administrative commander for the Federal Way Police Department, first responders transported Nelson to Harborview Medical Center following the collision.

According to the department, officers responded to a hit-and-run collision in the 800 block of Southwest Dash Point Road on Feb. 17 that resulted in the death of a pedestrian.

The department requested the public’s assistance in identifying any involved vehicle and driver, stating the department lacks any known witnesses, suspect vehicles, and driver information.

As of March 11, Buchanan said he did not have any current updates regarding the department’s investigation.
