Pedestrian struck by vehicle in Federal Way

The man, who was crossing the street against the traffic signal, sustained serious injuries, police say.

A pedestrian was struck by a vehicle while crossing the street against the traffic signal on Tuesday morning in Federal Way.

At about 8:30 a.m. Nov. 22, officers responded to reports of a vehicle versus pedestrian collision near Pacific Highway South and South 312th Street, according to Cmdr. Kurt Schwan of Federal Way police.

Investigation found the pedestrian, a man in his 60s, was crossing Pacific Highway South from the west side while using the crosswalk, but he was crossing against the traffic signal, Schwan said.

The vehicle was driving with the signal of a solid green left turn arrow. The vehicle struck the pedestrian in the crosswalk and then immediately stopped, Schwan said. The driver cooperated with the investigation and did not show any signs of impairment.

The man was transported to St. Francis Hospital with serious, but non-life threatening injuries.
