The Federal Way Police Department and Valley SWAT were called to a “standoff” situation Saturday morning at a residence near the corner of 5th Avenue SW and SW 308th Street.

The suspect, 38-year-old Jeremy Markham of Federal Way, is alleged to have been driving a quad around while intoxicated. As he drove, he encountered a birthday party and instigated a situation with three of the partygoers. According to police spokeswoman Cathy Schrock, “the male confronted the group. A brief confrontation ensued and the male rode off yelling racial slurs.”

After the confrontation, the three individuals (two males and one female) got in a car and followed Markam back to his home. As they approached his residence, Markham is alleged to have “fired one round from a shotgun into the vehicle.”

Schrock indicated the driver of the vehicle was hit by some of the pellets, but refused treatment.

Federal Way police then performed a “surround and call out at the residence,” but with no response. Valley SWAT arrived and the suspect came out of the residence without further incident, according to police information. Markham was arrested for assault in the first degree and booked into King County Jail.
