The Historical Society of Federal Way is renovating one of the region’s most historic structures.

Located on South 348th Street at the entrance of West Hylebos Wetlands Park, the landmark Denny Cabin is undergoing a facelift.

The cabin was built in 1889 for Seattle pioneer David Denny. The two-story log cabin was moved from Seattle to Federal Way in 1966.

The historical society secured a $15,000 grant from 4Culture to go toward the cabin’s renovation. On June 8, a small crew finished major log restoration work and replaced missing logs on the cabin.

Once completed by the fall, or by the end of 2011 at the latest, the Denny Cabin will provide space for presentations and student field trips. Adjacent to the Denny Cabin is the Barker Cabin, which has already been restored and is open to the public.
