On a recent Saturday, Federal Way Rotary Club and FUSION (Friends United to Shelter the Indigent, Oppressed and Needy), collaborated on a major project to help improve the landscaping at one of FUSION’s single family homes.

FUSION purchased the house over one year ago; problems were soon discovered with concrete buried beneath the topsoil causing damage to all the plants in the front and back yards.

To remedy this, enthusiastic volunteers from Rotary assisted FUSION leaders Carl Buehring and Phil Wamba. The concrete was removed, blended compost was added to the soil and the yard was enhanced with perennials, ground cover and shrubs.

To further these efforts, Teufel Nursery and Landscaping provided a dump truck and planting materials.

Such a project is a great example of how local service organizations, nonprofits, and businesses can work together to enhance our neighborhoods and the community.
