Federal Way teen dead in Saturday night shooting

Police investigating weekend homicide of 16-year-old Decatur student in SW Campus Drive Taco Bell parking lot

Federal Way police are investigating a Saturday night shooting that left a local 16-year-old dead.

Police have identified the victim as Federal Way resident Wesley D. Gennings, a Decatur High School student who played football for the school’s team.

A police spokesperson said officers responded just after 8 p.m. to reports of hearing gunshots in the area of the Taco Bell at 2031 SW Campus Drive. They discovered Gennings with a fatal gunshot wound in a vehicle in the restaurant parking lot.

Police said that two males, who were in the vehicle with Gennings at the time the gunshots were heard, were seen leaving the area on foot and heading southeast immediately after the shots were heard. The suspects were described as being “in their late teens or early 20’s” and were wearing dark clothing at the time they were seen.
