Over 900 Federal Way students from 26 schools and other special guests will flock to the West Hylebos Wetlands Park from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on May 11, 15 and 18 to release salmon.

The Salmon Release Celebration is the culmination of the annual Storming the Sound with Salmon program, a partnership between the city of Federal Way and Federal Way Public Schools to promote science and environmental education, particularly storm water education.

Over the school year, students in 26 Federal Way schools have been raising salmon, while at the same time learning about the impacts of surface water pollution and what they can do to help prevent it. Not only will the students get to release their salmon at the event, they spend the entire school day at the West Hylebos Wetlands Park doing hands-on outdoor learning.

Mayor Jim Ferrell will be addressing students and guests each day from 11:15–11:45 a.m.

Special guests will include over 900 Federal Way students (300 students each day), Bert the Salmon, Scooby Doo, Federal Way Historical Society, Friends of the Issaquah Salmon Hatchery, Earthcorps, King County, Highline’s Mast Center, Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, Federal Way teachers, parents and community volunteers.

The public is welcome to come down and check out the event.
