The city of Federal Way is planning another “Blue Friday” rally in honor of the Seattle Seahawks at 3 p.m. on Jan. 31 at Federal Way City Hall.

Mayor Jim Ferrell announced the rally during the Federal Way City Council’s meeting on Tuesday, with the mayor saying the city plans to have a bigger and better rally than the one held on Jan. 17.

“I have to tell you, we are going to bring it on the 31st of January,” Ferrell said. “(The Jan. 17 rally) is a just a taste of things to come.”

As part of the Jan. 17 rally, a 5-by-8 foot banner with the number 12 emblazoned on it was provided to the city by resident John Fairbanks, and hung over the entrance of City Hall that day. For the Jan. 31 rally, Ferrell said the city acquired a second, larger banner.

“The city of Federal Way, thanks to a member of the IT department … He has flown in, from another country, a banner, probably what will be the largest banner in the state of Washington. It’s 15 feet by 25 feet.”

The mayor noted that the IT department acquired the banner on their own initiative, and pooled together the money to have it made and shipped to Federal Way.

Ferrell said the city hopes to have representatives from all four comprehensive high schools in Federal Way in attendance for the Jan. 31 rally, as well.

At the Jan. 17 rally, the Todd Beamer High School line and jazz bands were in attendance, along with the Decatur High School marching band.

The city has also invited Jet Cities Chorus to sing their 12th Man Seahawks song.

“We’re going to have a 12th Man rally that will rival any other,” the mayor said. “I encourage you all to attend. It’s going to be a lot of fun.”

The Seahawks will play in the Super Bowl against the Denver Broncos starting at 3:30 p.m. on Feb. 2 at MetLife stadium in East Rutherford, N.J.

This year marks the second time the Seahawks have played for the NFL’s top prize. The Seahawks last trip to the Super Bowl in 2006 saw them fall to the Pittsburgh Steelers 21-10.
