Federal Way flies flags at half-staff in memory of slain Tacoma police officer

The city of Federal Way is flying flags at half-staff in memory of Tacoma Police Officer Reginald “Jake” Gutierrez, who was recently shot and killed in the line of duty.

“We stand in solidarity with our neighboring city,” said Federal Way Mayor Jim Ferrell on Friday. “On behalf of the 95,000 residents of the city of Federal Way, we offer sincere condolences to the family, friends and comrades of Officer Gutierrez.”

In consultation with the Governor’s Office, Ferrell ordered the Flag of the United States, the State of Washington, and the city of Federal Way flags to be lowered to half-staff until sunset on the day of Jake Gutierrez’s memorial, which is yet to be determined.

Residents, businesses, and other government entities are encouraged to fly their flags at half-staff to honor the life of Officer Jake Gutierrez.

“May God bless his soul and may he find eternal peace,” Ferrell said.
