The Aerospace Futures Alliance board of directors has named Kelly Maloney as the alliance’s second executive director, effective Aug. 1.

Maloney succeeds founding executive director Linda Lanham, who is retiring.

“I am incredibly thankful to the Aerospace Futures Alliance board for their confidence in me to move the Aerospace Futures Alliance to the next level,” wrote Maloney, who is a Federal Way City Council member, in a media release. “Representing aerospace in Olympia will continue to be the main thrust of Aerospace Futures Alliance endeavors — from industry-wide to company-specific issues. Beyond that, I am thrilled to be in a position to apply innovative and imaginative program and service offerings, driving value for our members across the state.”

As a member of the senior management team at aerospace manufacturer Orion Industries, Maloney oversaw an extensive brand revitalization, resulting in an increase in brand awareness and marketshare. She was also responsible for government affairs and media relations, and was directly involved in business development.

On the City Council, Maloney is the lead on economic development, rebranding and a university initiative. She has been intricately involved in the city’s legislative agenda, working with legislators on important issues affecting the city.

“Linda will be greatly missed. She grew the alliance from its infancy to where it stands today — as a recognized leader on behalf of aerospace companies across the state,” said Bill McSherry, Aerospace Futures Alliance board member and Boeing vice president of State & Local and Global Corporate Citizenship. “Under Kelly’s leadership, Aerospace Futures Alliance will continue its growth, expanding its service offerings and being responsive to industry needs and trends to effect the greatest benefit for our members.”
