ELECTION 2013: Ryan Miller seeks city council seat

Ryan Miller has announced he will run for position 6 of the Federal Way City Council.

Ryan Miller has announced he will run for position 6 of the Federal Way City Council.

Miller has been a Federal Way resident for more than two years and is currently employed as the general manager at the Hampton Inn and Suites in Federal Way. He is also a committee member of the city’s Lodging Tax Advisory Committee. According to a news release, Miller’s top priorities in seeking his first elected office are strengthening the city’s economy by attracting businesses and tourism; working with schools; and public safety.

Miller will run for the seat held by Diana Noble-Gulliford, who was appointed to fill a vacant council position in January. Noble-Gulliford told The Mirror she plans to run for election, but has not officially declared.

Earlier this month, Martin Moore announced his candidacy for position 6. Moore is currently State Rep. Roger Freeman’s legislative aide.

Filing deadline for candidates is May 13-17. In other council election news:

• Federal Way Mayor Skip Priest and Deputy Mayor Jim Ferrell will face off for the mayor’s job. So far, Priest and Ferrell are the only two candidates to enter the mayor race.

• For city council position two, Kelly Maloney and Mark Koppang have declared their candidacies. Maloney was appointed to the seat in January and is running to keep the seat. Koppang previously ran for council in 2011.

• Jeanne Burbidge has announced her bid for re-election to position four. She was first elected in 1997, and served as appointed mayor during her second term in 2002.

• South King Fire and Rescue Commissioner Bill Gates announced his bid for re-election for position one. He was first elected to the board in 2001 and was re-elected in 2007.
