Driver escapes fire that charred vehicle transport truck

South King Fire and Rescue responded to commercial vehicle fire at 7:09 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 27, at the Top Foods parking lot located off South 316th Street and Pacific Highway South.

Federal Way resident Scott Chase emailed this photo, taken by his wife Lesa, of charred vehicles in a local parking lot. He inquired about the cause of the fire and whether the truck driver was OK.

Here’s the lowdown: South King Fire and Rescue responded to commercial vehicle fire at 7:09 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 27, at the Top Foods parking lot located off South 316th Street and Pacific Highway South.

Fire crews found a commercial automobile transport truck loaded with nine passenger cars. Fire was coming from the engine compartment and engulfed a vehicle on the rack directly above the cab, according to SKFR. Three of the vehicles were damaged. The driver escaped unharmed from the sleeper section of the semi-truck, according to SKFR.
