Don’t call it Wild Waves – it’s Wild Waves and Enchanted Village | Business

Washington state’s only spot to feature both a water and amusement park in one place is headed back to its roots in the hopes of capitalizing on the nostalgia of the park’s youth, when it humbly opened nearly 40 years ago with about a half-dozen rides and was called Enchanted Village Theme Park.

To do that, Wild Waves is no longer “Wild Waves.” It’s “Wild Waves and Enchanted Village.”

The park originally opened in 1977 and didn’t add the water park until seven years later. The newest thing that has come from going back to the future is that guests who aren’t interested in water attractions will now have the option of buying a discounted ticket for just Enchanted Village — the dry side of the park, essentially.

“The guests love the opportunity to visit Enchanted Village only,” general manager Todd Suchan said. “We have seen a daily increase in attendance and young families excited about this new option. The feedback from guests has been very positive, and we look forward to hearing more from our guests.”

The ownership of the park has changed hands several times, including a brief period when it was controlled by Six Flags. With the name change and added emphasis on school-aged guests, the Suchan-managed summer hub for Seattle-area residents hopes to gradually bring back elements of its beginnings — starting with the employees.

“Our seasonal team members also play a huge part in this process,” Suchan said. “Each of them are ambassadors of the park, and it is important for each of them to understand and be able to talk about the history of Enchanted Village.”

For the duration of the season, ending in September, an Enchanted Village-only general admission ticket will cost $19.99 at the gate and $16.99 if tickets are purchased online. For general admission access to both parks, $39.99 is the price at the gate compared to $27.99 online. Kids and seniors cost less: $9.99 both at the gate and online for Enchanted Village only and $19.99 at the gate and $16.99 online for both parks.

Enchanted Village includes rides such as the Timberhawk, Wild Thing and Pirate Ship. In addition to the rides, every day — except Tuesday — boasts four different shows at The Enchanted Village Stage located next to the Ferris wheel. The shows begin at 11:30 a.m. with a Dance-A-Long, followed by a 1 p.m. performance from America’s Got Talent act XAKARY the Magician, 3 p.m. showings of the Mad Science Experiments Show and another Dance-A-Long at 5 p.m.

By the end of July, Enchanted Village is also adding a tower drop ride, according to Suchan.

“We need to continue to reintroduce Enchanted Village as a standalone amusement park,” Suchan said. “This will also require us to keep adding attractions and maintaining the ones our guests have been enjoying for many years.”

Wild Waves and Enchanted Village is open in July from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday to Thursday. It stays open an hour longer on Friday and Saturday.
