Clothing bank returns to serve Federal Way students

Federal Way PTSA Council's clothing bank is returning temporarily.

Federal Way PTSA Council’s clothing bank is returning temporarily.

The program, which supplies gently used clothing for Federal Way students, was closed last year due to a lack of a chairperson. However, the council has brought it back in a limited fashion for this fall.

This year, clothing is only available for students in kindergarten to fifth grade.

“Any student enrolled in the school district, come on down with parents and see if they can find some shirts or shoes, maybe a coat or two,” council president Charlotte Kemble said.

The clothing bank will be open on Mondays, from 10 a.m. to noon and again from 6 to 8 p.m. at 32020 1st Ave. S., Suite 111 (corner of 320th St. and 1st Ave. S.)

The schedule for schools to use the clothing bank is as follows:

• Sept. 13 is for students at Brigadoon; Adelaide; Camelot; Green Gables and Valhalla elementary schools.

• Sept. 20 is for Star Lake; Enterprise; Lake Dolloff; Meredith Hill; Lake Grove and Lakeland elementary schools.

• Sept. 27 is for Mark Twain; Mirror Lake; Panther Lake, Sunnycrest and Rainier View elementary schools.

• Oct. 4 is for Nautilus; Silver Lake; Wildwood; Sherwood Forest and Twin Lakes elementary schools. The cycle for the schools listed above will begin repeating on Oct. 11, 18 and 25.

The hope is to eventually establish a permanent clothing bank again. However, someone would need to become the chairperson of that endeavor. Anyone interested can contact Kemble at cykemble@msn.com.

Donations are also accepted at the clothing bank during its business hours. The clothing bank accepts any gently used clothing, but no socks or underwear, which are bought new for the students.
