The following is a sample from the Federal Way police log:

Man assaulted while waiting for his son: At 10:01 a.m., Jan. 18, a man called 911 stating he was assaulted by a random suspect, while he was waiting to pick up his son. The victim complained of head pain, but did not require medical assistance.

Spousal spat turns into gun discovery: At 4:40 a.m., Jan. 17, in the 1000 block of South 320th Street, police responded after a 911 call reported a domestic violence situation at the Extended Stay America. When officers arrived, one of the suspects produced a stolen pistol. Both people were arrested and booked into SCORE Jail.

Man steals a pair of glasses: At 10:09 a.m., Jan. 17, in the 2000 block of Southwest 336th Street, officers arrived on scene and responded with the victim who provided recorded surveillance and images of an unknown male taking a pair of Calvin Klein glasses valued at $195 from the display and concealing the glasses into his front pocket. The male exited the store, making no attempt to pay for the hidden glasses.

Man couldn’t spare a dollar: At 2:10 p.m., Jan. 17, in the 31000 block of Pacific Highway South, police contacted a suspect for a theft investigation after he shoplifted from the Dollar Tree. Officers found a couple of outstanding warrants attached to the suspect, placed him under arrest and booked into SCORE Jail.

Too many prowlers at the complex: At 7:02 p.m., Jan. 17, in the 29000 block of 21st Avenue South, a victim called police after he saw a strange male at his car holding an umbrella. The victim noticed speakers and some change were missing from his vehicle. The manager requested additional patrols because she is not sure if she and her family were being targeted or if it is random within the complex.

Brick and glass don’t mix: At 1:39 a.m., Jan. 16, in the 31000 block of Pacific Highway South, an unknown suspect threw a brick through the front door window of a business, causing the window to shatter. The owner estimated the damage to be $400.

Wal-Mart is not a hiding place: At 7:28 a.m., Jan. 16, in the 34000 block of 16th Avenue South, officers were called to investigate a suspicious vehicle at Wal-Mart. After the registered owner came back with multiple warrants, police confirmed the warrants, and took the suspect into custody inside the store. The subject was transported to SCORE jail without incident.

Man has trouble letting go: At 12:35 a.m., Jan. 15, in the 34000 block of Ninth Avenue South, a man was causing a disturbance at St. Francis Hospital by fighting with several staff members after being discharged. He was arrested and booked into SCORE Jail.

Casting a stone: At 5:18 a.m., Jan. 15, in the 33000 block of 10th Avenue Southwest, a victim called police reporting someone had broken her window. She said, while sleeping in her bed, a rock was thrown through her side window in her bedroom shattering the top part of the window. The woman estimated the cost to replace the window was $1,000.

Burnt food causes food fight: At 11:09 a.m., Jan. 15, in the 31000 block of Pete von Reichbauer Way, officers responded to a residence after two roommates got into an argument over food burning on the stove. During the argument, food was thrown by each at the other person. Both parties agreed to avoid each other until they could cool down and discuss the issues at a later time.

Not the time or place: At 1:18 a.m., Jan. 14, police were dispatched to the parking lot of McDonalds on Pacific Highway South following a report of two people engaged in lewd, sexual activity, with the female possible underage. Officers made contact with two adults inside a vehicle. Both denied sexual activity, but the woman’s pants and belt were undone. A check revealed the woman had an active misdemeanor warrant out of Fife for possession of drug paraphernalia. Police also discovered she tried to conceal drug paraphernalia and a small amount of heroin in a condom, which she unsuccessfully tried to swallow. The contents were later weighed and came out to be .3 grams. After further testing, the remainder of the heroin was booked into evidence for destruction. The woman was booked into SCORE Jail.

Citizen assist turns into arrest: at 6:50 a.m., Jan. 14, in the 34000 block of Ninth Avenue South, an officer responded to a citizen assist because the subject wanted to find a warm place to stay and needed resources. At the same time, officers were notified the subject had an unconfirmed warrant. After the warrant was confirmed, the person was taken into custody and transported to SCORE Jail. The man was given information about the resources he sought, which were placed with his property.

Jewelry, cash stolen: At 11:35 a.m., Jan. 14, in the 31000 block of 51st Avenue Southwest, someone reported finding jewelry and money missing from two of the residence’s bedrooms. It was later discovered someone had removed one of the window screens from the master bedroom and accessed the residence through the window.

Assault investigation stalled: At 1:53 p.m., Jan. 14, in the 31000 block of First Avenue South, an officer spoke with a man who reported his daughter was at St. Francis Hospital receiving treatment after she was assaulted. The man reported he believed the daughter’s boyfriend was responsible for the assault. The officer responded to the hospital and spoke with the woman, who was uncooperative and stated that an unknown male hit her in the face earlier in the day and refused to provide any additional information. The woman stated she did not want to make a criminal case at this time.

Scary messages sent by unknown person: At 2:10, Jan. 14, in the 23000 block of Seventh Place South, a person reported receiving threatening phone and text messages by an unknown person. The messages stated intent to kill the reporting party unless monetary payment was made. Images were sent from four different phone numbers with images of what would happen if money was not paid. The messages and phone messages were documented.

Suspect steals laxatives: At 6:26 p.m., Jan. 14, at the Safeway on South 320th Street, an unknown person hopped the counter at the pharmacy and stole several bottles of laxatives before fleeing on foot and getting into a light-colored four-door passenger car.

Not the crystals you’ve been looking for: At 11:21 a.m., Jan. 13, in the 2000 block of South 312th Street, officers were dispatched to Steel Lake Plaza. The manager said they found a white crystal substance in the stairwell of building D with unknown suspects. Police tested the substance in question but got negative results. The substance was booked for destruction.

Unwanted car left behind: At 9:52 a.m., Jan 13, in the 32000 block of 20th Avenue Southwest, police were called to a strange abandoned car. The registration was over six years expired. Officers found garbage strewn along the side facing the sidewalk. When police called the owner, she hung up on them when they tried to explain she needed a title transfer.

Business window broken: Police responded to a commercial alarm at 12:45 a.m., Jan. 12, in the 2000 block of Southwest 320th Street. Upon arrival, the officer discovered a large rock had been thrown through a commercial alarm. The rock did not break both panes of glass, and no entry attempt was made. A nearby resident had contacted 911 and reported hearing a man yelling about ISIS and seeing him throw rocks at the window. The man had left the area prior to police arriving and was not located in later checks. The victim arrived and told police there are working surveillance cameras in the area, which he would email.

Bicycle violations lead to arrest: At 3:56 a.m. on Jan. 12, an officer stopped an individual riding a bicycle in the 200 block of South 356th Street for multiple violations. A name check of the individual through dispatch revealed the man had a felony warrant for his arrest. He was taken into custody without incident and booked into SCORE Jail.

Child reports domestic violence: At 6:08 a.m., Jan. 12, in the 35000 block of 16th Avenue South, a 10-year-old child called 911 and reported a domestic violence incident. Upon officer arrival, a female victim was located. She reported her boyfriend strangled her and struck her in the face and neck several times. The boyfriend was gone before police arrived.

Man arrested following domestic incident: At 4:40 a.m., Jan. 12, police responded to the 100 block of South 339th Circle for a domestic dispute. The reporting party said her boyfriend’s nephew had been yelling at the back door, wanting to be let in. The suspect was not allowed entrance and eventually quieted down and left the area. He was located at an adjacent apartment in the stairwell and was taken into custody on a fourth-degree assault warrant out of King County. He was later transported and booked into SCORE Jail.

Man trespassing at church: At 7:12 a.m., Jan. 12, officers responded to the 2500 block of Southwest 320th Street after receiving a report of a man sleeping in the sanctuary. The reporting party stated the male forced entry into the church by breaking a window. The male did not have any possessions on him, and officers noted he suffered from some mental illness. The man was later transported to St. Francis Hospital for a mental evaluation.
