Beat the heat: City opens cooling center

The summer heat wave will continue this week in the Puget Sound region. Temperatures are expected to reach 88 degrees or higher on Monday, with a low of 63 degrees.

The summer heat wave will continue this week in the Puget Sound region. Temperatures are expected to reach 90 degrees or higher on Monday, with a low of 63 degrees.

The forecast calls for a high of 87 degrees on Tuesday, a high of 81 degrees on Wednesday, and a high of 77 degrees on July 4.

The City of Federal Way is offering hot weather shelter at the Community Center for the duration of hot weather this week. The community center is located at 876 S. 333rd St. The facility will be closed July 4. Special services at the community center will not be available (such as free use of the swimming pools, workout equipment, showers, etc.) to non-passholders. Citizens may purchase a day use pass. Restrooms are available. No pets are allowed, except for service animals.

The center will be open to all residents during its regular business hours, 5:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. weekdays. If the heat is still on this weekend, the Community Center is open 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.
