Pray for Federal Way’s annual prayer breakfast has arrived.
National Day of Prayer is Thursday, May 7. As is tradition, many Federal Way residents will gather from 7 to 8:30 a.m. in The Commons mall, 1928 S. Commons, in the Macy’s courtyard to pray for the people and city that mean so much to them. This is the 13th year the event, which takes place in cities nationwide, will happen locally.
Federal Way is home to more than 90 churches. The day of prayer is a chance for Christians and non-Christians alike to come together in one location with one common goal: Make Federal Way a better place through God.
“Our prayer breakfast here in Federal Way has a really great spirit,” Christian Faith Center pastor Casey Treat said.
The event annually draws a crowd of more than 100 people who pray for residents, children, businesses, families, city leaders and the city. Organizers hope to attract 200 attendees this year, said resident and organizer “Coach” Bob Roach. This year’s national theme is “Prayer…America’s Hope.” Local business leaders, physicians, community leaders and foster care advocates are scheduled to speak. Each will talk for approximately six minutes on their topic.
Federal Way Mayor Jack Dovey will emcee the breakfast. Cafe Pacific Catering will supply a hearty meal and a band from Christ the King Bible Fellowship will provide musical entertainment and worship. Attendees will have the option to participate in prayers, worship and celebration.
“It’s one of the feel-good events of the year,” South King Fire and Rescue chaplain and event co-organizer Mike Ballinger said.
The breakfast gives Federal Way folks the sense of community and unity, Ballinger said. Though anyone can pray alone, doing so in a group is more fun and fulfilling, he said. Non-Christians will not feel pressure to adopt the religion, he said. The atmosphere is relaxed and comfortable, Ballinger said.
“We need people getting together and praying and calling on God for help,” he said. “We have lots of needs in our community.”
A $10 donation is suggested for the breakfast.
