A Federal Way woman’s bail was set at $500,000 on Saturday as a judge found probable cause to hold her in connection with the stabbing death of her husband on Wednesday.

The 50-year-old woman is currently being held at the King County Jail in Seattle during the investigation of second-degree murder, according to Dan Donahoe, spokesman for the King County Prosecutor’s Office.

The Mirror does not name suspects until they are officially charged.

Probable cause documents state the woman called 911 on Wednesday to report she accidentally stabbed her 52-year-old husband in the chest at their Federal Way home in the 3800 block of SW 339th St.

The wife said they were arguing about the mortgage on their home, the documents continue. She told police she picked up a knife to cut frozen chicken for dinner and accidentally stabbed her husband when he walked up behind her, according to the documents.

She also suspected her husband was drinking, she told police.

The couple’s 18-year-old son told police he woke up to his stepdad slamming the door and the couple arguing. He came out of his room to see his mother holding a knife and tried to separate the couple but his stepdad went around him, the documents continue.

A spokesman for the King County Medical Examiner’s office said they will release the husband’s identity at 3:30 p.m. on Monday.
