Boeing partners with the Washington Alliance for Better Schools to provide an after-school, hands-on Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) learning experience.

The program, now in its 13th year, reaches thousands of students each school year. This past spring quarter, 64 schools in the Puget Sound region participated in the program, when 137 Boeing volunteers led more than 1,800 students through a six-week curriculum to inspire the students’ interest in STEM learning.

Engineering concepts brought to schools

John Hamilton, Boeing Commercial Airplanes vice-president of Engineering, visited a class at one of the participating schools – Madrona K-8 school in Edmonds, Wash. Hamilton engaged the 17 students in a discussion about how engineers develop products the students use in their everyday lives, such as mobile phones.

“The Boeing Company has always been a long-standing leader in our community,” said Emily Yim, executive director of WABS.

“To have John come out to a local school and roll up his sleeves to teach our young students about STEM through our After School STEM Academy is another example of exemplary leadership within the company, and also within our community.
