Don’t miss 9/11 tribute, Federal Way Farmers Market and more.

Back to school event: Thomas Jefferson High School campus from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 9. Presented by Game of Life. The event will feature employers, providers of family resources, food and a basketball exhibition.

9/11 memorial event: Hosted by South King Fire, the event will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Sept. 11 at Station 64, located at 3700 South 320th Street. The event will feature speaker Colonel Michael F. Keenan. South King Fire is proud to have “the most complete 9/11 memorial on the West Coast.”

Free recycling event: Free drive-thru tires and styrofoam recycling as well as paper shredding from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 16 at the South King Tool Library, 1700 S. 340th St. in Federal Way

Hot off the presses: The Federal Way Mirror invites you to join the paper from 1-2:30 p.m. Sept. 19 at Poverty Bay Café for informal conversation and coffee. You’ll be able to ask the newspaper staff about their work or talk about issues affecting the region, such as homelessness, addiction and development, all while supporting a local business and the work of nonprofit FUSION to serve families in need. Free Community Emergency Response Training begins: Sept. 20, then every Wednesday from 6-8:30 p.m. This eight-week certification is provided by the city. Refer to cityoffederalway.com for more information and contact Sharon Green,Emergency Management Outreach Coordinator, to sign up.

Taste of Federal Way: From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 23, nine local restaurants compete for the Taste of Federal Way at the Federal Way Farmers Market. Tickets are available at the market on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and on the day of the event. Each participating nonprofit is also selling tickets.

Walk to End Alzheimer’s: Sept. 23. Registration begins at 10 a.m. and ceremony begins at 11 a.m. Located at Dune Peninsula Park, Point Ruston, 5361 Yacht Club Road, Tacoma.

First School Board meeting of the school year: 6 p.m. Sept. 26 at Sherwood Forest Elementary School, 34600 12th Avenue Southwest.
