No matter how many meetings and input by the citizens of Federal Way, the city council has already made up its mind about putting the on-off ramps from I-5 to 312th Street.

They decided a long time ago that this is what is best for those who live as far away as Browns Point. There are three off-on ramps already jamming during commuter traffic. One, at 272nd Street across, Pacific Highway from I-5, and down through Redondo Beach. Also, traffic turning south from 272nd Street will also turn right at Dash Point Road, and jam up Dash Point Road, during commuter traffic. There is always some kind of backup from I-5 south and northbound to on-off ramps; 320th Street jamming from I-5 all the way to Twin Lakes during commuter traffic; and then there is 348th Street, jammed with traffic any time during the day at on-off ramps.

So don’t be fooled by what the city council is saying because they are not listening and never will because of this “power” thing they have. It’s not what is best for the City of Federal Way and its citizens, but what is best for a select group. Not once did I hear about the impact it will have on the senior living accommodations, across from where Target used to be. Many, including myself, travel east on 312th Street, turn down the street going toward the transit parking garage, over to 320th Street taking the exit to I-5 south. Find there is less traffic, and easier to get to southbound I-5, instead of trying to go across 320th from 1st Avenue South.

Since they haven’t been able to come up with a more workable idea, they have taken it upon themselves to just put another on-off ramp between 272nd and 320th. They didn’t even take into consideration the impact it will have on a family park and homes. But they seem to think that because these places are not used my certain members of Federal Way, that the park and homes were expendable. I can’t see where any of their ideas are workable, for another on-off ramp from I-5. My idea: Look farther south, past 348th.
