Quarterback

TJ Esekielu, Beamer

In his first full season starting at quarterback for the Titans, the senior had a historic year. Esekielu finished with 1,604 yards on the ground and 1,402 through the air, giving him 3,006 yards of total offense on the year. He was the first quarterback in SPSL history to rush and throw for over 1,000 yards during the regular season.

He was also named the SPSL South’s co-Offensive Back of the Year and was a first-team selection by the coaches in leading the Titans to their first postseason appearance in the school’s history.

In the 42-33 playoff loss to Skyview, Esekielu finished with 349 yards of total offense, including 218 yards on the ground on an amazing 43 carries. He was also 10 for 20 through the air for 131 yards.

Keegan Giles, Jefferson

The 5-foot-9, 200-pounder was the SPSL North’s all-purpose player of the year after totaling 1,814 all-purpose yards during the season. Giles led the SPSL in rushing at just over 1,500 yards and scored 15 touchdowns.

His best game came against Mount Rainier during a TJ win. During the game, he rushed 31 times for 255 yards and had six touchdowns, one short of the SPSL record. He also had 257 yards against Kent-Meridian.

Giles also averaged 28.6 yards per kick return, including a long of 84 yards. He was a first-team, All-SPSL North selection by the league’s coaches.

DJ May, Federal Way

The junior transfer from Beamer finished the season with 1,310 yards on the ground to finish third in the SPSL South. May also finished with 11 touchdowns on the ground and two receiving.

May was a first-team, All-SPSL South selection. His best game came during a loss to Jefferson when he ran the ball 28 times for 266 yards and two touchdowns. He also caught three passes for 21 yards and a touchdown during the game. He also had 225 yards during a loss to Bethel.

Wide receivers

Mike Tate, Federal Way

The sophomore burst on to the scene this season for the Eagles. Tate caught 45 passes for 645 yards during the season for Federal Way. Tate also finished with four touchdown catches. His best game came during a 40-35 win over Beamer when he finished with 209 yards receiving and two touchdowns of over 53 yards. Tate also had two other 100-plus yard games.

Phillip Haywood, Jefferson

The junior had a big season for the Raiders. Haywood caught 22 passes for 331 yards during the regular season and three touchdowns. His best game came against Kent-Meridian when he caught five passes for 88 yards and two touchdowns.

Tight end

Nicky Faulaau, Beamer

The senior was a clutch receiver for the Titans this season and was named the first-team, All-SPSL South tight end. Fualaau caught 20 passes for 235 yards and three touchdowns.

Offensive line

Mikhail Vlasenko, Jefferson

The 6-foot-1, 256-pounder was a first-team, All-SPSL North selection after another stellar season on the Raiders’ line. Vlasenko helped clear the path for Keegan Giles to rush for over 1,500 yards. He was also a force on the TJ defensive line with 8.5 tackles for a loss.

Faauiga Taala, Federal Way

Taala was a second-team, All-SPSL South selection after anchoring the Eagles’ line. Taala helped DJ May rush for over 1,300 during the season. He also led the Eagles with four sacks on defense.

Mike Reidel, Beamer

The 5-foot-11, 265-pound senior was a second-team, All-SPSL South selection by the league’s coaches.

Brandon Siliga, Decatur

The 6-foot-4, 280-pound senior was the Gators’ best player on both sides of the line this season. Siliga was an All-SPSL 3A selection and will play college football next season, according to head coach Leon Hatch.

“He definitely can play at a higher level,” he said. “He might have to go the junior college route. He was our best player this year.”

Troy Wiggins, Jefferson

The center was the quarterback of the Raiders’ line, which helped Keegan Giles run for over 1,500 yards. Wiggins was an honorable mention, All-SPSL North selection on the line.

“Our offense seems lost without him,” said TJ head coach Dean Peck.

Albert Havili, Federal Way

The sophomore has a very bright future for the Eagles. Havili started all season on the line and helped protect quarterback Nick Tanielu and spring DJ May.

Jordan Wernet, Decatur

The 6-foot-5, 240-pound junior was solid all season long for the Gators.

Kicker

Koby Craig, Federal Way

The sophomore made all five of his field goal attempts on the season and finished with 40 total points for the Eagles.

Defense

Defensive line

Jefferson Aumua, Jefferson

The junior played in the middle of the Jefferson line, along with teammate Mikhai Vlasenko. Aumua finished with one sack.

Uso Olive, Federal Way

The junior anchored the defensive line for the Eagles this season. Olive finished with 23.5 tackles during the regular season and one sack.

Marly Liulama, Beamer

The 6-foot, 280-pound junior was a force in the middle of the Beamer defense all season long. Liulama was a big-time run-stopper and even saw a little action as a running back on the offensive side, scoring a touchdown against Federal Way.

Linebackers

Tim Luafatasaga, Jefferson

The 6-foot-2, 230-pound junior was one of the best defenders in the SPSL all season long while playing through a knee injury. Luafatasaga led the SPSL North during the regular season in tackles with 76.5. The linebacker averaged 8.5 tackles a game and also had eight tackles for a loss. He was also a first-team, All-SPSL North selection at linebacker for the Raiders.

Jordan Pulu, Federal Way

The Eagle junior led Federal Way in tackles with 65.5 on the season, including 54 solo tackles. Pulu’s best game came during a loss to Jefferson when he tallied 15.5 tackles. He also finished with 10.5 tackles and two sacks during a loss to Curtis.

Nicky Faulaau, Beamer

The Titan senior was a two-time first-team All-SPSL South selection at linebacker. The 6-foot-1, 225-pounder was a defensive stalwart during all four of his seasons at Beamer and returned a fumble for a touchdown in his first game as a freshman.

Faulaau finished second in the SPSL South in tackles for losses with nine and led the Titans with 49 tackles. He also was third in the division with four interceptions and he returned one for a touchdown.

Rod Jones, Federal Way

The sophomore linebacker finished second in tackles for Federal Way with 33.5. He also intercepted a pass and had a sack. On offense, Jones carried the ball just 20 times, but finished with seven touchdowns for the Eagles.

Conner Schilling, Decatur

The 6-foot-2, 205-pound junior was the Gators’ leading tackler during the season.

Defensive backs

Stanley Matau, Federal Way

Matau was a hybrid defensive back/linebacker for the Eagles during the season. The senior finished with 21 tackles during the regular season and had a blocked-punt touchdown during Federal Way’s season-ending win over Tahoma.

Levon Anderson, Beamer

The Titan senior was a second-team, All-SPSL South selection by the league coaches. He shut down several talented wide receivers during the season and had one interception for Beamer.

Dominique Maxie, Beamer

The Titan senior is one of the fastest players in the SPSL. Maxie won a state championship two years ago in the 4×100 relay. During the season, he had one interception on defense and finished with second on the Titans with six touchdowns.

Curtis Havili, Decatur

The Gators’ free safety got a lot of action in the secondary this season, but the 5-foot-11, 188-pounder was up to the challenge.

“He was a force back there for us,” Hatch said. “He’s just a hitter.”

Punter

K.W. Williams, Jefferson

Williams finished third in the SPSL North in punting with a 35.2-yard average. He punted 26 times with a long of 50 yards.
