Federal Way sophomore Gabe Togia stepped up to take on the quarterback position for the rest of the football season.
Former quarterback D’Jimon Jones had to take the remainder of the season off because he became ill. Coach John Meagher said he could not provide more information concerning Jones’ health because of HIPPA privacy laws.
Jones is a junior and showed much promise on the field this year. His teammate and coach say they hope he recovers well so he can return to football his senior year.
“We will miss D’Jimon and it hurts to lose him before the playoffs,” Meagher said. “But Gabe has done a great job so far and all his teammates are responding well to his leadership.”
Togia helped lead the Eagles to a 77-21 win, which took the team to the SPSL 4A North’s top seed into the preliminary playoffs.
“Gabe was 7-1 as our starting junior varsity quarterback and really progressed throwing the ball later in the season, Meagher said. “He has such a low key demeanor that really helps us in games.”
