Decatur football is off to its second best start under Head Coach Matt Vaeena. The Gators are now 4-1 after beating the Tahoma Bears on a field goal on the last play of the game 33-30 on Sept. 29.

Over their last four meetings, Tahoma has been 4-0 since 2006. The Bears have outscored Decatur 150-51 in those four games.

Since 2004, Decatur has had three four-win seasons. Only one of those years was a five-win season, which was 2019 in Coach Vaeena’s second year. At this point in their program, after two hard seasons coming out of the pandemic, Decatur feels right back where they were in 2019.

If the Gators beat Mount Rainier on Oct. 6, it ties the most wins for the school in a season since 2004.
