Federal, State: Primary election results are in for Federal Way

Early ballot counts Tuesday night favor incumbents in Congressional District 9, which includes Federal Way, and Legislative District 30, which includes the cities of Federal Way, Algona and Pacific.

United States Representative

For Congressional District No. 9 US Representative, incumbent Democrat Adam Smith is in the lead with 50.17% of the votes, totaling 44,010.

Republican challenger Doug Basler currently holds 24.10% of the votes with 21,140 votes.

Behind the two frontrunners are Independent Kshama Sawant with 13%, Democrat Melissa Chaudhry with 11.54% and Socialist Workers Party candidate Jacob Perasso with 1.07%.

Along with Federal Way, District 9 includes Algona, Auburn, Beaux Arts, Bellevue, Des Moines, the majority of Kent, Mercer Island, Milton, Newcastle, Pacific, Renton, SeaTac, parts of southeast Seattle and Tukwila

State Senator

For Legislative District 30 State Senator, the first update on Wednesday show incumbent Democrat Claire Wilson ahead with over half of the votes. Wilson has 61.64% of the vote — or approximately 10,007 votes.

Republican challenger – and the only other person on the ballot – Michael Rutland took home approximately 38.27% of the vote. Write-ins currently stand at 13, taking 0.08% of the votes. Total votes as of 4 p.m. on Wednesday are 16,235.

State Representative Position 1

For Legislative District 30 State Rep. Pos. 1, incumbent Jamila Taylor is set to face newcomer Tiffany Bowyer in the general election.

Tuesday’s primary election results update show incumbent Democrat Taylor received over 63.38% of the vote or 10,279 votes.

Newcomer Republican candidate Bowyer secured 36.46% of the vote, or 5,914 votes, as of Aug. 5.

Write-ins are currently at 26, making up 0.16% of the total vote. Vote total stands at 16,219.

State Representative Position 2

Democrat Kristine Reeves is set to face Independent Paul McDaniel for Legislative District 30 State Rep. Pos. 2 in the general election, according to Wednesday results.

Tuesday’s vote count shows Reeves garnered 63.33% of votes or about 10,134 votes, King County Election results show. McDaniel secured 36.11% of the vote, or about 5,778 votes.

Write-ins are currently at 90, making up 0.56% of the total vote. Vote total stands at 16,002.

King County Assessor

For Assessor, Rob Foxcurran leads with 43.86% of the votes, totaling 132,218 with Dominique M. Scarimbolo now sitting second with 60,288, or 20% of the vote. Christopher Roberts is now in third place with 59,090 votes, or 19.6% of the votes.

Al Dams trails behind with 16.23% (48,934). Write-ins are currently at 935, making up 0.31% of the total vote. Vote total for Assessor stands at 301,465.

State Supreme Court Justice Position No. 1

Colleen Melody leads with 65.15% of the votes with 200,784 while Scott Edwards is currently in second place with 21.98% of the vote with 67,741. Laura Christensen Colberg is in third place with 12.65% of the votes with 38,999.

Write-ins are currently at 683, making up 0.22% of the total vote. Vote total stands at 308,207.

State Supreme Court Justice Position No. 3

Mike Diaz leads with 42.16% of the votes with 129,451 while Jaime Michelle Hawk is currently sitting second with 33.42% of the vote with 102,606. David Stevens is sitting third with 24.13% of the votes with 74,075.

Write-ins are currently at 912, making up 0.30% of the total vote. Vote total stands at 307,044.

State Supreme Court Justice Position No. 5

Theo Angelis leads with 46.25% of the votes with 141,899 while Sharonda Amamilo is currently sitting second with 22.73% of the vote with 69,736. Dave Larson is in third with 21.68% of the votes with 66,528 and Greg Miller with 9.15% at 28,066.

Write-ins are currently at 592, making up 0.19% of the total vote. Vote total stands at 306,821.

State Supreme Court Justice Position No. 7

Debra L. Stephens leads with 66.40% of the votes with 202,765 while Todd A. Bloom is currently sitting second with 18.42% of the vote with 56,247. Karim A. Merchant and David R. Shelvey are trailing behind with the former receiving 10.51% of the votes with 32,085 and the latter with 4.46% at 13,629.

Write-ins are currently at 641, making up 0.21% of the total vote. Vote total stands at 305,367.

Overall voter turnout stands at 22% as of 4 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 5.

The election results are updated each day at 4 p.m. until they are certified on Aug. 18. The general election is Tuesday, Nov. 3.
