“Shock and Thaw,” the Federal Way Police Department’s Special Olympics Polar Plunge fundraising team, participated in a plunge at Alki Beach in West Seattle on Feb. 26.

The team raised a total of $10,835 which will be used to support Special Olympics Washington athletes.

On Saturday, team member dashed into the chilly Puget Sound waters. Some people wore costumes, dressing up as pickles and penguins.

The team’s No. 1 supporter, Arianna Graham, and her family cheered on from the beach. Arianna and her mother, Andrea, work to promote Down syndrome acceptance throughout Federal Way and communities beyond.
