Federal Way Kiwanis donate big check to school district

Each year, Kiwanis presents the district with half the concession stand profit. The other half helps fund Kiwanis programs including a college scholarship program that benefits seniors graduating from the district’s high schools.

Federal Way Kiwanis representative Jim Chaffee presented a check for $15,607.50 to Superintendent Rob Neu and Federal Way School Board President Tony Moore at the Nov. 27 board meeting.

Kiwanis has been selling concessions at Memorial Field as long as anyone can remember – and the club has been in existence since 1955.

Each year, Kiwanis presents the district with half the concession stand profit. The other half helps fund Kiwanis programs including a college scholarship program that benefits seniors graduating from the district’s high schools.

Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world one child and one community at a time. Along with scholarships, the concession stand money and money earned from an annual Salmon Bake benefit three Federal Way high school Key Clubs, the Builder’s Club at Illahee Middle School, and the AKTION Club for special needs adults.

Kiwanis also runs Terrific Kids programs in three elementary schools and donates to numerous community and national/international programs that support children.
