District gymnastics meet Saturday at Auburn Mountainview

CLASS 4A WEST CENTRAL DISTRICT III/SOUTHWEST DISTRICT IV STATE QUALIFYING GYMNASTICS MEET
• WHEN: Saturday, Feb. 14. Events begin at 10:15 a.m.
• WHERE: Auburn-Mountainview High School.
• ADMISSION: Students with ASB, $5; Adults and student without ASB $7; Elementary school students $4; Senior citizens $5.
• AT STAKE: Berths into the 2009 Washington State 4A Gymnastics Championships, Feb. 20 and 21 at the Tacoma Dome Exhibition Hall. The top-two teams and top-two all-around gymnasts will earn berths. The top seven competitors in each of the four events will also earn trips to the state final.
• FAVORITES: Kentlake, Puyallup and Emerald Ridge in the 4A.
• NOTABLE: Beamer finished up in fourth place at last week’s SPSL Championships behind Puyallup, Emerald Ridge and Kentlake, qualifying them for the district meet. The Titans are led by sophomore Cassie Peterson, who finished ninth in the league all-around and was second with a 9.450 on the floor exercise. Kentlake’s Kayla Shira is the favorite in the all-around after several 37.0-plus finishes. She won the SPSL championship with 37.225 points.
