Federal Way resident Betty Taylor is seeking volunteers to create leis for hurricane relief.

In those leis will be toothpaste, deodorant, hand sanitizer and other basic hygiene necessities she will be sending to those affected by Hurricane Harvey.

The event is scheduled from 3 to 4 p.m. Sept. 5 at the Lake Grove Elementary gymnasium, 303 S.W. 308th St.

In addition to needing volunteers to help make the leis, hygiene item donations to be used for the lei effort are being sought. People can donate items for the leis at Federal Way City Hall, 33325 Eighth Ave. S., or at the event.

Taylor said this is the first event planned to help Hurricane Harvey victims, with more coming.

Taylor’s goal is to send at least 100 leis to those in Houston. For more information, call Taylor at 206-852-4000 or search “Leisforthehomeless” on Facebook.
