Starting with the USA v Australia match at noon on Friday June 19 the Federal Way Performing Arts and Event Center (PAEC) and the Civic Plaza will be transformed into a three-day free community festival.
Located at 31510 Pete von Reichbauer Way S. in Federal Way, the event will feature a nonstop lineup of live music, carnival rides and games, a food truck alley, local vendors and a beer garden all on the newly installed turf lawn next to the PAEC.
Every single World Cup match that weekend will be streamed live inside the PAEC, including games as early as 9 a.m. and as late as 9 p.m.
“Inside the PAEC is all about soccer, outside the PAEC is all about community, and those are really the two delineations,” Communications Manager Ben Miller told the Mirror.
The vision for Kickin’ It is to provide a free and accessible event that “welcomes the entire community,” said event organizer Autumn Gressett.
“Not everybody’s a soccer fan, but also not everybody is a live music or a carnival fan. Being able to provide something to our community over a long weekend that really celebrates them and celebrates our cultures was what made this most appealing, and what is exciting to see come to fruition,” Gressett added.
There are a wide variety of ways to participate in the event. The majority of the activities are completely free and it will be a welcoming place to come spend the whole day with the family.
For those looking for a more exclusive and elevated experience, the event is also offering the option of reserving a private luxury lounge to watch the games with complimentary snacks and beverages and a dedicated bartender.
Each day will have a variety of special activities and one main highlight will be a free Youth Soccer Clinic led by former Seattle Sounder Kelyn Rowe.
Performances will be a mix of local, regional and national names including everyone from the Federal Way Youth Symphony Orchestra to Arte Flamenco to the Po’okela Street Band and headliners The National Parks, Leo Brooks and Jaime Wyatt.
The festival will also overlap with national holiday Juneteenth, which will be recognized in Mayor Jim Ferrell’s opening remarks on Friday, June 19. The Federal Way Farmer’s Market will also take place on the street just below the Kickin’ It Festival at S. 316th St.
Parking will be available at nearby parking lots and specifically designated ADA parking will be gated and managed by an attendant to ensure accessibility.
