Three high schools students from Federal Way spent their June 2 at the governor’s mansion in Olympia accepting a $1,000 college scholarship for their community involvement and academic achievement.
• Andrea Diep, who attends Federal Way High School, helped organize a citywide “Co-Op with the Cops” program, which nurtures relationships between city residents and the police force, through her Advancing Leadership Youth group.
• Jenna Fowlow, who attends Christian Faith High School, traveled to Los Angeles with her senior class to help serve Dream Center, a local organization that helps under-served population seek health care assistance, food and other services.
• Joohee Choi, who attends Decatur High School, “is a dedicated leader in all aspects of her schooling,” said the scholarship foundation.
The scholarships were awarded by the Comcast Foundation’s Leaders and Achievers Scholarship Program. According to Comcast representatives, the program “provides scholarships to students who strive to achieve their potential, who are catalysts for positive change in their communities, who are involved in their schools, and who serve as models for their fellow students.”
