South King Fire and Rescue and Federal Way’s Grace Church (1232 SW Dash Point Road) are spearheading two projects to benefit local students and schools to help keep them both thriving.
“In these difficult economic times, we are pleased to partner with local church groups to help make a difference for the kids in our community,” said Fire Chief Al Church in a statement. “Our small level of assistance shows that everyone can pitch in and make a difference for our schools and the youth they are preparing for the future.”
School supply drive
Each of the eight South King Fire and Rescue stations and Grace Church are collecting school supplies from July 31 through Aug. 15 to benefit students from all schools in the Federal Way School District.
The list of supplies will be posted at each station and can be found online at www.gcfw.org. Every donation goes directly to help children in need.
School beautification project
The fire department and church are also teaming up from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 27 to beautify the campus of Sacajawea Middle School (1101 S. Dash Point Road) in Federal Way.
Off-duty fire department personnel, church members and other volunteers will provide some of the muscle needed to move bark, pull weeds, paint and perform other maintenance activities.
“Schools should be a welcoming place for young students so they want to come and learn,” Grace Church Lead Pastor Jon McIntosh said in a statement. “We want to do all we can to help in that process.”
Citizens of all ages are invited to join this team of community-minded volunteers in the project. Those interested need only bring their work gloves at Sacajawea at 9 a.m. on Aug. 27 and organizers will show them what needs to be done.
