It wasn’t the sexiest way to win the South Puget Sound League North Division, but the Thomas Jefferson soccer team will take it.
The Raiders secured the SPSL North championship Friday night with a 0-0 tie against the Kentlake Falcons on the final day of the regular season. The tie left Jefferson 12-2-2 on the year, totaling 38 points. Kentwood finished second with 36 points despite not losing a game during the season. The Conquerors finished 10-0-6 in the SPSL North.
The Raiders got the shut out in goal from Luis Roman against Kentlake.
Jefferson will take on the Puyallup Vikings at 8 p.m. at Sparks Stadium on Wednesday, May 9, in the SPSL title game. Puyallup won the SPSL South with a 14-2-0 record. Federal Way finished second at 13-2-1.
The Jefferson-Puyallup winner will be the league’s top seed into the West Central/Southwest District Tournament. The loser will be the second seed.
The Raiders have used a very balanced attack on the offensive end this season. Brandon Madsen is the only TJ player with double figures in goals. Madsen finished the regular season with 10 goals and two assists. Luis Alvaro Osornio has six goals and seven assists and Jacob Thoreson finished with eight goals and three assists.
The difference for the Raiders has been on the defensive side of the ball. Jefferson has pitched an impressive total of 11 shutouts in their 16 games.
