Splash-tacular times at Community Center

A Summer Splash-tacular event was held June 13 at the Federal Way Community Center. Over 130 children ages 3-12 participated in a free pirate-themed water safety and drowning prevention day.
Along with the event, staff made up of lifeguards and swim instructors, the Community Center’s newest staff, the Junior Lifeguards, made their first appearance to help volunteer. The Junior Guards are a group of kids ages 11-14 who have taken the American Red Cross Guardstart course and are now eligible to help around the pool area with various volunteer opportunities.
Pictured: Katie, 4, and Justin Welsh, 6, rescue the junior lifeguard “victims” with a full bag of chips and the help of lifeguard Matt Dizon at the “Man Overboard” rescue skills station.
