The Federal Way Lady Knights 14-under fastpitch softball team finished in second place at the National Softball Association (NSA) Western World Series in Ventura, Calif. last weekend.
The Lady Knights’ tournament began with a 1-1 tie against the Magnum Force. Federal Way had to finish the game with only eight players due to an injury to the starting pitcher. The Knights won their second game, 8-4, over Vengence.
The Knights suffered their first loss of the tournament in their third game, 6-2, to the Bakersfield Nitro. Federal Way then went on to win four-straight games in the loser’s bracket to earn a trip to the championship game. The Knights beat the Central California Bombshells, Vengence, the SCV Storm and beat the Bakersfield Nitro in an exciting semifinal game, 2-1. The game was won with a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh inning.
The final was a rematch of the first game of the tournament, with the Knights again taking on the Magnum Force. This time though, the Force got their bats going early and were able to hang on to the lead despite a late charge by the Knights. The final score was 7-5
