The Federal Way Public Schools Board of Directors is preparing to conduct a superintendent search with the goal of hiring a permanent superintendent for the district.
School district officials say community and staff input is an essential part of the process. As such, the board is currently seeking applicants for a committee of community members and staff.
The role of the Superintendent Search Committee is to provide input and assistance during the search process, officials said.
The committee is expected to provide input on the qualities and characteristics that are being sought in the next superintendent and give input on the process, community forums and other means of community and staff engagement as the process moves forward with recommendations to the board.
Appointments to the Citizens’ Superintendent Search Advisory Committee will be announced the week of Nov. 3.
Information about the committee selection process and a draft of the hiring timeline is available on the Superintendent Search webpage.
In addition to providing details about the process, the page provides an opportunity for the community to give feedback on the search or the qualities needed in the next superintendent of Federal Way Public Schools.
Applications for a place on the Citizens’ Superintendent Search Advisory Committee will be accepted now through 5 p.m., Oct.24, and can be filled out online at http://tinyurl.com/luuj46c.
Paper applications are also available at the Educational Services Center, located at 33330 Eighth Ave. S., Federal Way, 98003.
The Board of Directors is also seeking a consulting firm to assist in the hiring process.
Interim Superintendent Sally McLean has held the position since May 2014.
