Man crashes into tree on Enchanted Parkway, dies

A man suspected of driving under the influence before crashing into a tree May 16 on Enchanted Parkway in Federal Way has died as a result of the crash.

The King County Medical Examiner’s Decedents list identified the man as Thomas David Sobo, 62. According to the medical examiner, Sobo’s cause of death was multiple blunt force injuries, his manner of death was an accident, and the location where his injury occurred was the roadway.

According to Federal Way Police Department Cmdr. Bryan Klingele, at approximately 1:30 a.m. May 16, officers responded to a single-vehicle collision in the 35500 block of Enchanted Parkway South, where a vehicle crashed into a tree. Klingele said that witnesses reported seeing the vehicle cross into oncoming traffic before the collision.

“Investigators believe impairment may have been a contributing factor in the collision, and driving under the influence is being investigated,” Klingele said.

Klingele said that medical personnel pronounced Sobo dead at the scene. Klingele said there was an adult female passenger who was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
