Through April 19: Centerstage Theatre presents: The 39 Steps: Local Federal Way theater company Centerstage presents this fast-paced whodunit for anyone who loves the magic of theatre. Mix a Hitchcock movie with a juicy spy novel, add a dash of Monty Python, toss it all on stage and you have “The 39 Steps.” Performed at the Knutzen Theatre located at 3200 SW Dash Point Road. Tickets are available online.

April 17: Habib Qaderi: Habib Qaderi, a beloved Afghan music artist, will be performing in the PNW for the first time. This live concert will take place at 7:30 p.m. at the Federal Way PAEC, 31510 Pete von Reichbauer Way S., and will feature a professional performance of his most popular songs and offers a unique opportunity for the Afghan community and music lovers to come together for an evening of celebration and cultural connection.

April 17: Monthly Build Workshop: Infinity Cube Learn how to build your own Lego infinity cube from 6 to 7 p.m. at Bricks & Minifigs, located at 1414 S 324th St. Suite B201 in Federal Way. It’s a fun, fidget-friendly build that you’ll love to play with long after the workshop is over.

April 17: Free Community Baby Shower: Access free diapers (limited supply), light snacks and enter to win raffle prizes like a splash guard, blankets, diapers, bottles, backpacks for baby items and more from 3 to 5:30 p.m. at the Federal Way Library located at 34200 1st Way S in Federal Way. April 18: Youth Car Wash Fundraiser: The Federal Way Youth Commission is hosting a car wash from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Federal Way Community Center, located at 876 S 333rd. All proceeds will go toward funding the Fir Step Scholarship, a scholarship created by the Youth Commission to award funds to youth who are unable to afford recreational activities.

April 18: Park Appreciation Day: Join in for the annual Park Appreciation Day. Free lunch. Bring your water bottle, work gloves, and a friend. 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, April 18, at the Hylebos Blueberry Farm Park, 630 S. 356th St., Federal Way.

April 18: ’60s Flashback Show: A tribute to the iconic history of the 1960s as told through its music, this musical experience is more than a concert, it’s a journey through the revolutionary sounds of pop, folk, soul and rock that defined a generation. April 18-19: Pop-Up Plant Vendor Weekend: The Rhododendron Species Botanical Garden is hosting pop-up plant vendors at the garden! Visit them at 2525 S 336th St. in Federal Way to enjoy peak bloom season and shop a unique selection of plants from vendors across Washington.

April 19: Bring Your Own Book Club: This casual book club from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Federal Way Library at 34200 1st Way S. invites guests to bring what they are currently reading and leave with recommendations. April 25: Garifuna Heritage Month: Garifuna Heritage Month is a time dedicated to honoring the resilience, history, and cultural legacy of the Garifuna people. This celebration uplifts the community’s language, music, food traditions, spirituality, and the intergenerational knowledge that continues to shape their identity. This celebration will take place at 3 p.m. in Town Square Park, located at 31620 Pete von Reichbauer Way S.

April 25: Mending Fair with the Refugee Artisan Initiative: For those who have clothes that need mending or hemming, this is a free opportunity to get up to two articles of clothing repaired. There are two sessions available and registration is open now to make sure you get in. One session is from 1 to 3 p.m. and the other is from 3 to 5 p.m. and both will take place at the Federal Way 320th Library, located at 848 S. 320th Street.

April 25: Whiskers and Paws Gala: Help raise funds for the Auburn Valley Humane Society through a silent and live auction, appetizers, dinner, program, and raise the paddle. 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the FW PAEC, 31510 Pete von Reichbauer Way S.

May 1: Community Resource Fair: Access resources from free clothes to free cellphones, youth support and programs, employment information, job resources and more at this monthly free event from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Family Life Center located at 32275 32nd Ave. S. in Federal Way.

May 1: Storm Large: Described as a “a musical force of nature — part rock goddess, part cabaret siren, and all powerhouse performer.” See her live at 7:30 p.m. at the FW PAEC located at 31510 Pete von Reichbauer Way S.

May 2: I’m Hooked Kids Fishing Event: In partnership with the I’m Hooked Inc. and the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, spend the day outdoors starting at 7 a.m. (rain or shine), engage in angler education, fishing, and health and wellness activities. Community mentors will help guide your child and family in the art of fishing, nature, health, and wellness and instill a love and passion to enjoy for years to come.

May 6: PAEC Presents: Step Afrika! Experience the pulse, power, and pride of stepping with Step Afrika!, the world’s premier ensemble dedicated to this uniquely American dance form. Performing at 7 p.m. at the FW PAEC located at 31510 Pete von Reichbauer Way S in Federal Way, this event will feature a vibrant fusion of percussive dance, traditional African movement, contemporary choreography, and compelling storytelling.

May 8-16: The Sound of Music: Federal Way High School drama and music departments are performing “The Sound of Music” at the FWHS Theatre, located at 30611 16th Ave. S.

May 9: FW Farmers Market: Federal Way Farmers Market will open in its new location on Saturday, May 9, the day before Mother’s Day. The market runs 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. each Saturday through Sept. 26 (no market on July 4). This year’s market will look a bit different in its new home in the city center, where it will fill 316th Street between the Performing Arts and Event Center (PAEC) and Town Square Park, and host approximately 60 vendors in 12’ by 12’ tents.

May 9: Meet author A.L. Hampton: Author A.L. Hampton will be signing books and meeting fans from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Federal Way Barnes & Noble located at 31325 Pacific Highway S. She’ll be signing copies of her spicy, dark paranormal romantasy series, “The Crown of the Seven Realms.”

May 9-10: BonsaiFEST!: A 2-day celebration of bonsai,this event recognizes World Bonsai Day on Saturday and Mother’s Day on Sunday at the Pacific Bonsai Museum located at 2515 S 336th St. in Federal Way. May 12: Senior Health and Resource Fair: With 85 vendors, this will be the biggest annual senior resource fair yet and will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the PAEC, located at 31510 Pete von Reichbauer Way S. This event is hosted by the city and brings together vendors from a wide variety of services and resources geared toward seniors.

May 12: School Board Meeting: Attend the Federal Way Public Schools board meeting at 6 p.m. at Illahee Middle School located at 36001 1st Ave S in Federal Way.

May 13: Hot off the Presses Community Conversations: The Federal Way Mirror invites you to join the staff from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Poverty Bay Café for informal conversation, coffee, beer, wine and appetizers. Attendees can ask the newspaper staff about their work or talk about issues affecting the region, such as homelessness, addiction and development, all while supporting a local business and the work of nonprofit FUSION to serve families in need. May 25: Zain Zohaib: This duo is described as “among the most captivating Qawwali duos of the modern era. May 29 to May 31: Arts Explosion: The Federal Way Arts Commission is hosting the 4th Annual “Arts Explosion” Juried Art Show Festival, taking place from May 29 to May 31 at the Performing Arts and Events Center. This festival will celebrate the diversity of Federal Way, showcasing the talents of both adult and youth artists, while promoting artistic growth and community engagement. “Arts Explosion” will feature the display, judging, and sale of artwork in five categories.
