The Pacific Northwest Kiwanis Foundation recently awarded the Kiwanis Club of Greater Federal Way with a $3,000 grant.

The grant will support third grade reading achievement in Federal Way Public Schools through the purchase of grade-level approved books for classroom libraries in three elementary schools.

The Greater Federal Way club has served the community for 43 years. Its main mission is to provide students with self-confidence and leadership and improve their academics. Services provided include annual donations of dictionaries to third-graders at two elementary schools, school supply donations and promoting a love of reading through the Read Around the World program at Valhalla Elementary.

The club also sponsors the Bring Up Grade awards at four elementary schools, which are given to students who have improved in a subject by one letter grade each grading period. The club also has an active Key Club at Thomas Jefferson High School.
