PowellsWood Garden (430 S. Dash Point Road, Federal Way) is inviting the public to be enchanted by the genus fuchsia.
Viewing of the “PowellsWood Hardy Fuchsia Collection” will be held via guided walking tours from Thursday, Sept. 15, through Saturday, Sept. 17. Two tours will be offered each day and will begin at 10:00 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.
“These showstoppers of the fall garden range in form from large shrubs to low groundcovers, and since these perennials begin blooming as early as May and continue blooming until frost, they are still in their full glory as many other perennials have started to fade,” a garden spokesperson said in a statement. “Fuchsia Days is a celebration of these outstanding plants and their many uses in the Northwest garden.”
PowellsWood is home to 44 fuchsias in the garden proper and an additional site with an extensive private collection. From PowellsWood Garden, visitors will accompany a docent along the trail to the fuchsia collection (about 1 mile round trip; tour duration is 1 hour 15 minutes).
The tour is complementary with admission.
PowellsWood Garden will be open during Fuchsia Days from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Adult admission is $7, youth admission (ages 13-18) is $5, and child admission (ages 6-12) is $3. Children 5 and under are free.
