Girls doubles team Ally Peterson and Crystal Lee of Thomas Jefferson went looking for another championship after winning the West Central District Tournament.
They came close, placing third at the state tournament in Richland.
The duo was upended in the semifinals by eventual state champions Abby DeNike and Brooke Fager from Lewis and Clark. The Jefferson duo bounced back in the third/sixth-place game, defeating Eastlake’s Elena Riehl and Nicole Rasmussen 6-1, 6-3.
Todd Beamer’s Avery Liening was also able to place in girls singles play. After falling to Teagan Mach from Newport (in Bellevue) in the first round, Liening won two straight matches to reach the fifth/eighth-place game. She fell 7-5, 6-2 to Mead’s Katie Kuka and took eighth.
On the boys’ side, the Titans’ doubles team of Bradley Hoefel and Charles Wong fell in their first two matches and did not place. They lost their second match 6-4, 4-6, 6-1.
