Federal Way parks officials have finished setting up the new playground at Adelaide Park (30500 16th Ave. SW), and the arbor-inspired structure is open for play.

“The original playground was well-loved for many years and needed to be replaced,” said John Hutton, director of Federal Way’s Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services Department. “The new playground is a treehouse theme and has many entertaining and exciting play opportunities.

Federal Way’s playgrounds are studied each year by the city’s Parks and Recreation Commission, which recommends structures that need to be updated or replaced. Staff solicited design concepts for the new Adelaide Park playground from several vendors, and public meetings were held in the neighborhood so residents could help select equipment.

Recommendations were forwarded to the City Council, which approved the playground design and the purchase of equipment last October.
