St. Francis staff recently attended the Garden Summer Camp at Camelot Elementary to teach children about the benefits of fruits and vegetables.

Staff from St. Francis Hospital attended the Garden Summer at Camelot Elementary to talk about “Eating from the Rainbow” on July 15.

Jessica Bean, director of food and nutrition services at St. Francis talked to the children about why fruits and vegetables are really good for you and how eating the right food can help your eyes, heart and muscles stay healthy.

Children participating in the camp spend part of each day in the garden planting, weeding and harvesting food to better understand where food comes from and how they can enjoy it on a regular basis.

Following Jessica’s presentation, St. Francis provide a healthy lunch that included a spinach wrap with vegetables, turkey and cheese, rainbow carrots and a medley of dried fruit.
