Federal Way City Councilwoman Susan Honda announced her campaign for re-election to the Council, Position 3, on Wednesday.
Her priorities if re-elected will include the development of the downtown area and economic development by creating an environment that encourages new businesses to locate in Federal Way and supports the city’s existing businesses. In addition, she will focus on financial responsibility and maintaining and supporting vital services that support all of the people who live and work in Federal Way.
“Federal Way is an amazing city to be a part of,” Honda wrote in an email. “I grew up in this area and have watched the city become what it is today. This is an exciting time for us. We are moving forward and the future is bright.”
During her time on the Council since November 2011, Honda has served on the Land Use and Transportation Committee, the Finance, Economic Development and Regional Affairs Committee and she is chair of the Parks, Recreation, Human Services and Public Safety Committee. She has also served on several ad-hoc Council committees and is a member of the Federal Way Domestic Violence Task Force.
Regionally, she serves on the Domestic Violence Initiative, King County Flood Control District Advisory Committee and the Board of Health.
During her second year on the Council, she earned her Certificate of Municipal Leadership Award, a leadership training program offered by the Association of Washington Cities.
“It is an honor to serve the people of Federal Way,” Honda wrote. “I look forward to the future.”
